This past weekend I had the privilege of being surrounded by awesome friends from all over the world. One of my good friends Cat just returned from a South American adventure, and some new friends from Atlanta were also in town. We spent the afternoon in Venice Beach, just hanging out under a boardwalk.
I finally made it into 2017, well we all did thankfully. Among many things a new year promises, the common denominator is change. We all want this year to be different than the last, to grow and feel like we are advancing in this game of life. I am no exception.
As a photographer, all you can do is work hard every day to learn more than you did yesterday. To work on your craft and hone in on your skills. A great way to do this is by starting a creative challenge while you still have the new year stamina to do so. I am challenging myself to create one new thing every day this year and capture it. The creation could be the photo or it could be a photo of my creation -- all that matters is that I make it happen every day.
I will be documenting my progress on my Instagram @azurine so follow along to catch what I am up to for the next 349 days, we might both discover something new.
I've had this site up for quite some time, but never told anyone. If a website is up but no one knows it exists, does it really? Its an old story, perfectionism getting the best of your work and holding it hostage so it never sees the light of day. Eventually you grow tired of explaining that your creations "aren't ready yet" or are "almost perfect" and you finally release it all into the wild. In this case its my website, with all my work so far and with the resources to connect and write about my photography experiences. Ultimately my work is ever changing and growing as am I. Next week I may realize I hate the layout and change it (as I have in the past) or decide to delete all of the current photos and turn it into a dedicated site for goats....which is completely okay.
Letting go of the idea that things will be perfect is the kindest thing a creative person can do for themselves and others. In reality all beauty and art is about perception, not perfection which means I can publish this site, tell you about it, and enjoy this wild ride.
The start of wedding season is so exciting every year, and this year is no exception. Even though it seems as though the world is being turned on its head, even though it seems that all we hear is bad news, and even though sometimes you don't even want to leave your house, among this there is still love. People joining their lives together in love continually.
Weddings are such a great time to remind yourself that love still happens even in dark times.
